The Insights, Strategy, and Development team aims to advance Amplify’s professional development strategy by enhancing and expanding PD resources, developing a visionary approach for digital learning and PD offerings, and continuously refining these resources to support effective Amplify product implementation and improve student outcome. As the Specialist, Assessment Writer, you will own the development of assessment items that are crucial for measuring and promoting learning in our Science of Reading courses. This role is essential for fulfilling the ISD team’s vision of developing innovative digital learning and enhancing PD resources by enriching our Science of Reading courses with valid and reliable assessment items. This involves ensuring that the assessments align with the International Dyslexia Association’s Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS) for teachers of reading and collaborating with subject matter experts to achieve our educational objectives.
Responsibilities:
Assessment Design:
  • Create clear and engaging assessment items across different methods, including selected-response (e.g., multiple-choice, true/false) and constructed-response (e.g., short answer, essay) questions.
  • Create and implement quality assurance processes to ensure that assessment items follow basic guidelines to reduce systemic errors. use an assessment blueprint to guide the development of end-of-course assessment items.
Assessment Development and Revision:
  • Develop assessments for various contexts, including formative (ongoing) and summative (end-of-unit or end-of-lesson) evaluations.
  • Construct assessment items with varying levels of cognitive complexity to effectively gauge and measure progression toward learning objectives.
  • Map lesson assessments to ensure they align with learning objectives, accurately reflect the required cognitive level, and provide appropriate scaffolding to support learning outcomes.
  • Revise assessment items as needed, incorporating feedback and making necessary adjustments.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related work experience
  • Professional assessment writing experience
  • Experience in education, with teaching experience being a plus
  • Strong understanding of assessment item composition and alignment to standards
  • Proven expertise in early literacy development, science of reading research, and adult learning principles.
  • Strong knowledge of Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS) for teachers of reading
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s or Advanced Degree in Education
  • 5+ years of assessment writing experience
  • Experience in the field of education, school / district leadership, educational publishing / technology
  • Previous experience writing assessment items based on science of reading content
  • Understanding and compassion for the role of the teachers and leaders
  • Experience with Amplify CKLA or Amplify ELA
Compensation:

The hourly rate range for this role is $49-$52.
